Just bought me a (bad) cab , engine with gearbox out of a 1956 gmc pickup I guess.
Since the l6 engine seems in good condition (good compression , no leaks to the coolant ) I would like to change most of the gaskets since some oil leaks are apparent.
I ve been reading and searching a lot on this forums and on the internet too, but i m una le to identify this engine?
The only stamped nr i found is behind the distributor C174099
Behind the starter motor is the casting nr 3837004 GM M
(This last M is further to the right of the engine , between distributor and vent tube
This M is casted in a square surround)
Behind the inlet/outlet we found a kind of "label" o E30 6 o
1 or I (??? About 4 " lower )
N (inclined about 45 degrees)
The cilinderhead outside the cover mentions 3836848
GM
Inside the cover between 1 and 2 cilinder 1
Inside the cover midst of the 5 cilinder D (inclined)
Outside the cover between 4 and 5 cilinder soms kind of "label " F o 7 o 6 o
(Where the "o" stands for a kind of what looks like a cast "head of a small screw"
Sofar what concernw the engine
Inside the cab , on tfhe left door pillar we found a tag aw follows

So it seems the cab and the engine belong together since the engine nr is the same
As mentioned above , my interest goes only to the engine , since i am restoring a 1959
which had a much younger v8 engine unted the hood which replaced the original l6
Somwhere oved time.
So I intend to re-swap it !
Hope sombody can help me with this issue, so that I could order the right gasket set for it !
