Make sure it is for a high pressure 235 (most gasket manufacturers would call it 1954-1962 235).
The earlier low-pressure 235 engines used different gaskets (used also on the 216s, I think).
Not that it applies here, but just to be clear 1954 engines used the same gasket as the earlier engines.
The pan gasket for a 56 should fit 1955-62 235, and 1955-63 261.
