I was having the same problems with the hood & fender alinement on my 48.

Then I read over the 48-51 shop manual once again , & did as the book said to do I moved & added shims.

Now the Hood sits close to the cowel & tight to the weatherstriping also there is a lot less gap between the hood & fenders.
