I recommend welding it aswell Dave.
Also, if i'm thinking correctly, not sure if an arc welder is what you want for sheetmetal work. (someone chime in)
If your little gasless wirefeed doesn't feed here are a few thoughts,
1. clean nozzle
2. pull cable straight (no kinks in wire)
3. stepping on the cable can colapse the (man i'm having a hard time with my descriptive words), cable (?) on the wire that runs though it causeing the wire to not run though it very well.
