I'm a new member from Oregon...and have already found much great info on your site.
I have a 55 first series 3100 that I bought in 1977 (I think). It served as my main transportation for years...then moved to secondary rig later. It made trips from Kansas (where I bought it) to Mississippi (Navy station) to Oregon (College) and then to Upper East Tennessee (work) and finally back to Oregon. Never gave me any issues. I mostly drove at night in the summer because of no air conditioning and had to keep extra gas cans in back because of crappy gas milage and distance between gas stations open at night on Interstate 70. Speed limit was 55...so it wasn't straining too hard on these trips.
The truck has been in my garage since 1999 or so, and I'm finally getting around to getting it back in shape to drive on the road.
I got the engine fired up again last weekend after multiple carburetor adventures, so progress is being made.
