The stock pin, .25 Dia, even if it's 120,000 psi shear strength, (which it ain't) yields at around 5900 Lbs. Also, the fact there is little or no radius at the step, it has a stress riser built in.
If the roll pins is considered technically brittle:
Brittle, in the strength of materials world, does not necessarily mean it has lower strength. Mostly it connotates to higher strength.
