Eric - many things are "salts", but sodium bicarbonate is not sodium chloride - in fact the simplier form, sodium carbonate [soda ash] is used as a rust
inhibiter, boiler descaler, and water softener

this post in the tool section - if you decide to have a commercial soda blasting service do it for you, make sure they do it in a way that avoids oil from the compressor contaminating the media and that it's well rinsed with water afterwards
