Hi Guys, I appreciate everybodys thoughts. After spending over 3 hours on removing all the paint and MOST of the primer, on an inside door moulding/garnish, I bow to your knowledge, and my achin' arm. At this point I don"t care if it is EDP, alpo, or kibbles and bits. As long as it passes the "sock test" I am going to paint over it. lol. The door looks to be original. The interior side looks to be orginal color, but badly faded. However you never know for sure. As Red58 sez it gums up the 60 grit sandpaper fast. You would think after 55 years it would have dried out enough to sand a little easier. As I said in my original post I was curious as to what the black stuff was. All I lost was a little time and sweat. Plus I gained a bit of knowledge. And like fishin' I like to think the big guy upstairs dosen't count the time workin' on the truck against you.
