Be careful with those mini HEI conversions.Your distributer shaft has to have a small clearance up and down after installation.
On the stock dist,the body slides into a clamp, the clamp is a little flexible,so the dist body and shaft aren't forced against the oil pump.Because of this stock set up, the machining of the block deck where the distributer is located wasn't critical.It can vary on different blocks.A guy here had a ground up oil pump and distributer because of lack of clearance.
Gently install the dist,push down by hand, make sure the tang on the end engages the oil pump.If there's a gap between the flange and block,use a shim of some sort.Don't just sock it down with the reatainer. Also make sure the dist gear meshes with the cam gear properly.
