Once again, you guys asked the right questions. At one point with the gasket on the glass, I was convinced the glass did not fit. We removed the gasket and carefully positioned the glass as close as as was safe and could see the glass is correct.
Wilbur nailed it about the gasket. I have a 1963 (my truck is a 1960) shop manual, and the gasket more nearly matched the cross section shown in the manual when turned the way I had it using the only "flat bottomed " groove for the glass.
I had to go back and look at it the third or fourth time before I realized he was right. I did have the gasket "wrong side out". I had dismissed the differences between the new gasket and the cross section shown in the manual as being a poor after-market fit. I believe it is going to work.. Thanks again to all..
