It was pretty common to see worn out or rusted solid centrifugal advance systems after 100K miles or so with no inspection and/or lubrication. Lots of folks never even opened up the distributor unless the pickup coil or module failed, even if they did do the occasional spark plug or wire change. BTW, I wonder how many stovebolters have ever looked under the breaker plate in their distributors? That's where the advance weights and springs are!
