Interesting thing happened today with my wheels. My painter had the the tires dismounted across the street at a tire place. After priming them the intent was to remount the the tubes and tires, but not inflate them until finishing the base coat/clear coat process. After prepping the wheels they went back across the street and the tire guy informed them that they could not remount the tires because they were over 5 years old (Actually, they are about 20 years old but show very little signs of age.) They took them to another place and got the same story. Finally they were taken to xyz tire place and had the job done.
All of that being said... One day I will more than likely have them demounted again, the wheels blasted, and then powder coated. I will more than likely buy some new Cooper tires at $150 or so a pop at this time. Of course, the problem again will be remounting the tires without nicking the powder coat.
BTW, I've seen everything from fences, engine parts, patio furniture, my Harley sliders, etc. powder coated and you really can't tell it from "real" paint.
