Which direction does the V6 distributor turn? If it's a CCW rotation, the Buick distributor might be a necessity, as the centrifugal advance weights will retard, instead of advance the timing if a CW rotation unit is turned backwards. There's a tech tip out there somewhere about using a reluctor and a pickup coil for a 6 cylinder MOPAR electronic distributor in a Delco housing, and using that trigger signal to operate a Delco ignition module and a remote HEI coil. I was partway through converting a Triumph TR-6 distributor to that system when the car owner decided to go to an aftermarket distributor instead. It looks like a fairly simple conversion, just replace the points with the magnetic trigger and pickup coil. It does require some machining on the original distributor cam, however, so it would be wise to acquire a spare distributor to avoid doing a non-reversible modification to your only distributor!
