Thought it was a rough cast iron something from the local foundry Don. When I first saw the
thing it had about 2" of rough concrete covering the whole thing, like it had been broken out
of a slab. The more I chipped the better it started to look.
No....it's not a flame cut piece of plate, cuz it's got a four or five inch hub about an
inch tall cast into one side. I gotta do some more testing to see what it's made of, but
a quick spark test and smack with a ball peen makes me think it cast steel, and it dents
like steel also.
I think it may have been a blank for a flywheel of some sort. Around the turn of the century
Sandwich Manufacturing was a big player in the farm equipment business. They made the
Sandwich hit 'n miss engines, hay and grain handling farm equipment, of which, the Sandwich
engines were one of the best in the country. I suspect this could be something that was left over
when they closed down the factories and somehow it got caught up in a concrete foundation or patio.
My neighbor does demolition and that's how he found it.
