The 1955 265 V8 did not have an oil filter canister on the rear bottom of the engine. It had an oil filter canister mounted under the thermostat housing. It looked similar to the oil filter canister used on a Stovebolt 6. I believe the 283 V8 engine was not used until 1957. 1956 265 V8's did have the oil filter canister on the bottom of the engine.
