Yes, stock 3spd on a half- ton. Looks like the whole procedure is about full servicing of the rear bearing and speedo drive gear. l only need to remove the speedo DRIVEN gear. They remove it after taking the rest apart but don't say you can't only remove the driven gear before . That's what I'm asking. From the diagrams it seems plausible, so tomorrow I'm gonna give it a shot unless someone is sure that's a bad idea!
