I had the same problem and used some JB Weld too. It seems like it filled the groove. I'll be pressing on the sleeve early next week.
The kids and grand kids are coming for the weekend, so Granpy (not Grumpy) won't be hibernating in the garage this weekend.
BTW, I've got the 'new' rear end (3.90) installed and hope to have the engine buttoned-up and in this month. The SM420 four speed is ready and waiting, once the custom drive shaft is built and the spring perches are welded, I'll be 'On the Road Again' just like old Willie Nelson.............
