Was going to wait until I had my shop insulated and finished before I put in an A/C, but this Texas heat and humidity got the best of me. Sams had a 24K BTU window unit for $450, so I picked one up, cut a hole in my wall, framed the support, ran a dedicated 220 circuit and was up and running Saturday evening. Sweet. Without insulation and a ceiling, I'm only getting down to the low 80's, but the lower humidity makes a huge difference.
You guys that have been pondering this project might want to pull the trigger and find a good deal now that summer is almost over and there are some good sales out there. My electrical was easy since I don't have interior walls yet and roof trusses are exposed. If you have room in your electrical panel for a dedicated circuit and are handy at electrical it is a pretty easy DIY project. Go for it.
