Take a short piece of the excess windlace (they give you extra) and give it a test run through the full length the channel. This will show you where the tight spots are. You can use a screwdriver to open up the channel. Don't overdo it or the windlace will pop out later.
Get some Astroglide (less embarrassing to buy than K-Y).
