After much research, although my salvage yard non world class (standard) T5 trans had what I believe was Dexron II in it, I decided to run Pennzoil Synchro, as I discovered that each car manufacturer that used the T5 in their cars specified whatever they wanted as a lubricant, because Brog Warner did not specify a lubricant when they made the transmission.... Dexron II no longer being available, and Dexron III being sold as a replacement, but those two fluids seem very different to me... and there seems to be a growing number of guys running the Synchro oil who are having good luck with it.

I have a friend who runs a transmission shop in Atlanta. They specialize in manual trannys for Mustangs and have serviced and rebuilt many T5s. He recommends either Synchromesh or Dex/Merc. Synchromesh is a bit thicker and runs quieter. Dex/Merc is a recommended substitute for Dexron III and allows for quicker shifting (so they say).
I use Synchromesh in mine.
