I don't quite know what to make of this found last nite: from gmpartsdirect.com "any vehicle that uses Dexron lll for manual transmissions - should now use PN 88861800 Manual transmission & Transfer case fluid". I suppose it's specifically formulated for our T5 WC applications that require ATF? Type lll back comparable to Type ll, which is what we can't find.
When G.M. started back servicing all of their automatics back to the '40 w/ Dexron VI they relabeled Dexron III as 88861800 Manual transmission & Transfer case fluid.
the reason I was given by G.M. is Dex VI is semi-synthetic & not validated for seals & sealant used on older manual transmissions & transfer cases.
