When G.M. started back servicing all of their automatics back to the '40 w/ Dexron VI they relabeled Dexron III as 88861800 Manual transmission & Transfer case fluid.
the reason I was given by G.M. is Dex VI is semi-synthetic & not validated for seals & sealant used on older manual transmissions & transfer cases.
