The bits and pieces are coming together for what's going to be sort of a destroked 265 engine, one down near 250 cubic inches. I'm starting out with a 305 block, and fitting a forged 283 crankshaft to it with a set of special thick wall main bearings. The crank will be destroked to 2 7/8 inches, same as a Ford 289, and fitted with a set of NASCAR-specification Carrillo H-beam connecting rods that use Honda rod bearings about 1 7/8" in diameter. Add a set of pocket ported 58CC 305 cylinder heads with oversized exhaust valves, angle-milled to about 45CC's for a 10:1 compression ratio, and a roller cam and a rev kit, topped off with a 390 CFM Carter 4-barrel, and this thing should be able to live happily at around 8K RPM when necessary. I'm thinking about making it one of the engine options in the Excalibur roadster I was given several years ago. I'll also be able to run a Mercruiser 4 cylinder, a 230 inline six, or a 4.3 Liter S-10 V6, all with the same 700R4 transmission and virtually the same motor mounts!
