The Attendees:
Jim and son Jack Brad, Jim Christian (Hardshell), Phillip Pierce, Hambone, Sweet, Alec, Grigg, and yours truly.
The Venue:
The Wild Wolf Brewery where were met by the manager who promptly escorted us to a premier table under a fine canopy of hardwood trees. He returned shortly with two stickers each, one a signpost-like Nelson 151, and the second a Brewery of the Year designation. If you lifted your gaze to the horizon you were met with a 360 degree view of the beautiful scenery of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains.
The Award Winners:
Long Distance Award: Easily captured by
Hambone who made it look easy in his fine Chevrolet.
Jay Gatsby Host Award: Not only did
Phillip Pierce cover our dinner and bar tabs it was his idea to have the event!
Special Presidential Award, Young ODSS Member Division: A constant stream of propulsion and locomotion espoused by
Jack Brad challenged our end of the table with constant thought!
Special Presidential Award, Planning:
Alec, Sweet, Phillip and myself. Many hours were spent anguishing over minute details of the day, often with beer in hand at our respective keyboards or phones.
Upon completion of our repast we ventured out to kick tires at the location of our trucks that were also located underneath the aforementioned mature hardwoods. We then ventured a few miles south on Route 151 to The Devil's Backbone to have a parting beer. This venue has changed much in a few short years. We chose a picnic table at the outdoor bar pavilion, cooled by a huge overhead fan.
Many thanks to all who attended and those that couldn't make it you were well represented in our thoughts if not our lively conversations! Looking forward to our next get-together as always!
