yes, on 12v generators, I would leave it alone and get it running before messing around with generator. I believe the belt for your generator does not get tightened as much as an alternator belt though. The generator has bushings and not bearings in it and you will wear out the rear bushing real fast if you tighten the belt too much (ask me how I know! LOL)
