The sunstroke turned out to be some sort of Zika Avian Zombie flu, and I was laid up all week. The bad news on this, was that I did no afternoon truck projects. The good news is that I binge watched 3 seasons of "Marvels Agents Of Shield" in my sick bed. That and it was really really hot in AZ this week, so my open air shop would not have been fun. Saturday morning I patched the roof on my Uncle's fifth wheel, and Saturday afternoon was the annual volunteer fire department steak fry fund raiser, so I only had limited truck project time. This consisted of moving my pop up shade to the left side of the truck, and re-attaching the drive shaft and vacuum lines to the rear end. Even that was without incident. One of the caps fell off the U-joint, so I had to pick roller bearings out of the dirt, wipe them off, and re-line the joint. I added new grease, and for good measure, pulled the cap off of the other side to add grease there. I was now all prepped for the right side brakes, but it was time for the Steak Fry.
Sunday morning, I helped the fire department clean up the mess from the night before, and hauled tables and chairs back to storage with my truck and trailer. My wonderful life partner then firmly advised me that it was all well and good to do good deeds for the fire department, and have a fun 59 restoration project, but not at the expense of our daily drivers. I wisely agreed, and we drove the Jeep and Dually down to my Uncle/Cousins shop. She pulled the inner fender plastic lining off of my Dodge Dually to track down a leaking windshield washer tank. I yanked a leaky fuel line off of her Jeep, cut the end, and added a second hose clamp. I also cleaned the outside of the rear end, and checked the fluid, because the gas line was making the caked on oil around the differential look like it was leaking. I think my job was easier, that fender was a PITA.
After mechanicing, there was a family cookout, and then the first thunderstorm of the year arrived. I loved the rain, but it ended any chance of 59 work, so I am now way behind schedule. I am over my illness, and hopefully the rains continue to keep the temps down, so technically I could put in a long week to get the truck ready for the parade. Realistically though, the only way it is going to be in the Fourth of July festivities is if it is on a trailer behind the Dually. I am fine with this though, I don't like rushing through projects, so I will keep plugging away at it, and hopefully soon, take that test drive.
