Turns out, the distributor was not set in the oil pump slot. Grandpa suggested turning the motor while pushing down on the distributor, which would have worked awesome, but when I loosened the clamp, it fell down into place. Oil pressure abounds.
I drained the oil and dropped the pan again. Lots of sludge still. I made an autoparts run, and bought all of the tuneup stuff I could need. Plugs, wires, new fuel pump, things like that.
I put new hoses on the truck a few days ago. Had a birthday party interrupt my work, and yesterday put the new fuel pump on with the new filter. Even that was harder than I though it would be. The fittings would not come off of the old pump, so I had to scrounge for new fittings. The fuel filter inlet/outlet lines were too long, so I had to cut it down with with a pipe cutter. The idea is to test the pump from a gas can on the ground. I popped a patch off of the gas tank, and shone a light in there. Minor rust on the sidewalls, but some sediment on the bottom. I am goign to have to drop the tank, and will investigate further with the scope (batteries were dead last night)
I buttoned up the pan and oil filter housing last night, borrowed some diesel from my uncle, and hope to find time to flush the motor in the near future. Birthday dinners and a camping trip are going to wreck this week, but I might steal an afternoon. Still need put in all of the electrical parts, but will wait until after the flushing so as not to foul the new plugs.
Tonight after work, I am goign to look at a bench seat for sale off a 58 that is in better shape than mine.
So, now this journal is up to speed and in real time. Sorry that I dumped all the posts today, but work was slow, and I wanted to get caught up. I'll post random updates at a lesser rate from here on out, as exciting things unfold. Barring blowing up the motor, I am hoping to move to brakes my next weekend at the latest. Of course that is Mother's Day, but I will sneak my wrench time when I can get it.
