Cable is the only way to go and much better than the factory rods, bell crank, pivot pin Rube Golburg set up. We use Ford cables because it uses a small round hole in the firewall vs the square hole required for a GM and has a built in return spring. If your pocket book is strong then Lokar makes a very nice set up for just about any application. Pictures:
