Assuming your 41 is exactly the same as my 46, there s/b one single rod/hinge pin that runs the length of the hood and out a bit at both ends of the hinge.
The ends then go into the u-shaped holddown on the cowl, and the bullnosed pieces atop the radiator support.
As for lifting the hood by yourself... Well that is indeed a challenge. I found about the only way to do it was grab it with one hand on each the front and back, right where the center hinge is. Your grip kinda needs to be centered on the hinge.
This supports both sides of the top of the hood and allows you to carry it without it folding in in the middle.
It's still a bit cumbersome, and the side panels can be a PITA but it seems to work fairly well.
The only real problems I had were getting it in and out of the bed of the truck (where I'd stored it) by myself, and one occasion where the hinge pin started coming out and the hood started to separate into 2 pieces.
