I ran a 700R4 with 3:08 rear with a 350 stock engine in a 70 1/2 ton step side for several years. It was a beautiful driver. The engine settled down on the highway & was quiet. It got 18 mpg. & would pull long hills on the interstate easily with A/C on. That's the only way I would go.
