Thanks all. Wrenchbender and beltfed, thanks to your comments I've been checking junction blocks and I do like what I'm finding. The reason I've considered a kearney (split bolt) is a reluctance to cut the 8ga wire. Every cut and resulting splice/connection is a potential voltage drop point.

A junction block does make it easy, and I can fuse both the high and low beam leads. Theory being if a fuse blows, hit the dimmer switch and still have headlights.

Jerry and Julian, thanks for the confirmation. Looks like I gave to much credence to the battery acting as a buffer.
