It should connect to the high beam terminal on your dimmer switch. If you accidentally connected it to the feed line that feeds power to the dimmer from the light switch it'll do what you describe. It should connect to which ever of the side lugs you have going to your high beams, shown in the image below. Do not connect it to the center lug. <CLICK>
