I am in the process of installing a new original style electrical temperature gauge in my 59 Apache instrument cluster. The truck originally had a mechanical gauge with a capillary tube. The new gauge has the original style male stud, pin or peg (called this for the lack knowledge of proper terminology) type electrical connectors. My wiring harness, of unknown origin, has the proper type connector to provide power to the gauge. So now I need to make and run a wire from the gauge to the new electrical sending unit on the block. The proper connector used to connect to the sending unit is no problem since they were used on numerous GM vehicles. The female connector slips over the pin/peg and looks like a 90 degree flag connector and has provision to snap into the indent ring on this pin/peg contact on the gauge. However, I have searched high and low for an electrical terminal to connect to this pin/peg (or whatever it’s called). It’s the same type connector that is used to connect the sending unit wire to the gas gauge. Does anyone know the proper name for this connector? Or where I can obtain a few of them? Or can anyone recommend a satisfactory and safe alternative to using this plug-in connector other than “jest wrop some ware round it”! Thanks in advance. Gary.
