We do this on every under bed spare. Remove everything but cross member at front of tire and add an additional one for rear of tire to rise flat up against. Prefer some of the Nissan pickup ones because it will take a 3/8 extension square end. The cable is long enough you can put the crossbar through the center hole with spare completely behind the truck and it will pull the tire under the truck and then up. Nice when in a muddy/dirty spot or have nice clothes on. I guess it's been thirty years since we didn't mount the spare this way
