Haven't done it, but it's an intriguing idea. I'm wondering if you could find a unit that was shallow enough to work with the relatively narrow stock wheels, if that's what you're going for, since most later model cars and trucks have pretty large offset. Maybe a spare tire winch from a late model import would do the trick. You could fab a plate for mounting from the two U-channels that bolt to the frame for the stock spare tire holder.
