No, it is plain steel. I also used to think these were either pot metal (die cast?) or stainless. But this one is just regular steel with old chrome. The back side and the pits are showing rust, and a magnet sticks real hard to it. Which all tells me it is not stainless. And it is definitely not pot metal.
