I have used a lot of this product from Modern Masters Oxidizing Iron Paint (ME208)

http://www.modernmasters.com/landing/architects/brands/me It's a little time consuming to learn, but once you practice some, you can get an original looking patina that wold fool most who would look at it.
I would even be willing to have you come over to my shop and we could patina the fenders over a weekend. They are only original once and once you start painting on them, it's kinda hard to stop!
