For something like the EDP coating, which is quite thin, I reccomend using a scotchbrite pad to scuff up the factory primer. The red pad has served me well for coating with primer. They conform to irregular surfaces better than sandpaper and you're less likely to scuff through the primer. Your local automotive paint store should have them in big sheets like 8x10.
