I would go with a urethane. Lacquer is too brittle in my opinion and sould chip too easily. Depending on the color, you don't really need a clearcoat (unless you are using a metallic or basecoat/clearcoat paint). I used an Industrial urethane on mine, very tough, and normal vehicle chemicals won't harm it (brake fluid, battery acid, etc...).
