Gray engine paint from The Filling Station is generally accepted as the best match to the original. Comes in cans and in rattle cans. I used both. I like the quality of the paint.
I wrote a post on Stovebolt four or five years ago about the way that I painted the engine in my '54 3104 without removing the engine. I'm on my iPhone, so it's hard to find it. Let me know if you need it.
Not sure, but I probably used rattle-can self etching primer on the valve cover and push rod cover after I blasted them. Then sandable primer / wet sand / prime / wet sand etc. You must have a smooth surface for the valve cover and pushrod cover to look good.
