Check on the coil polarity- - -it takes approximately 20% more voltage to fire the spark plugs from the ground side, so if the + cable is grounded, the + side of the coil needs to be connected to the distributor. That won't help the cranking speed, but it just might make a hot start easier by firing the plugs more efficiently.
