Well, here's what I know for certain:

The casting number on the driver's side of the block tells me it's a '54 248, just like the long block I found in the back of the panel oozing oil out of a crack in the block. On closer inspection, the flat spot is canted about 20 degrees off horizontal, so it could easily be a chop shop special. I suspect the boat anchor in the back was the original engine, but the one in it runs strong so I'm not going to be too picky about it's origin. wink
