Sounds like you did a decent job of making one good cab out of two bad ones. Nice work!
I used to live in Illinois and it was the same story there; everything rotted out from the ground up due to winter road salt.
Out here by the ocean, it's a slower process but over 40 or so years, they'll rust from the top down.
I guess those rain gutters were a weak spot for all the old Chevys.
Just took a closer look at the truck, and I see that the rust has started in on the windshield header, near the passenger's side A pillar.
Still looks fixable, if I can locate some decent donor metal to replace the rot.
