You are really right on the no oxygen warning, when we were experimenting with different propellants for our potato gun we found that just a TINY puff of O2 mix with the acetylene was all the end cap of the combustion chamber could stand. Standard fuel was AquaNet hair spray but O2 supercharged it also so care was needed.
