I was going to put a saginaw 4 speed in my 1966 Chevrolet stepside - with 3.07 rear gears. If you have a bench seat, then you'll have to buy (or make) a bench seat shifter handle. Hurst makes one that's sold through Summit, among other vendors. But it's expensive (about 165 for the shifter and handle alone - plus linkages).
If I were you I'd check Ebay. Hurst 4 speed shifters are sold there daily (and fairly cheap). The Hurst shifter handles are often interchangeable so you may be able to buy a good shifter and find a usable truck bench shifter later. Just an FYI, the popular 55-57 car bench seat shifter will probably be too short to clear the seat.
