A permanent fix is to install a restricted "vapor return line" from the entrance to the carburetor back to the fuel tank. As the line is restricted (smaller line), the carburetor gets first choice at fuel, and all excess fuel is shunted back to the fuel tank.
The manufacturers did this in the early 1960's with air conditioned vehicles for the same reason.
Engineers REALLY do things for a reason.
