Check the diameters of the intake ports in the head, and the manifold ports. You might need to use a set of step-down alignment rings to avoid a vacuum leak. I believe the splash-oiler 235 and the 216 used a smaller intake port than the later 235's.

Then maybe easier to have the machine shop drill and tap a hole in the 1954 intake to add fitting for the 2 spd rear vacuum line. Thanks Jeffrey
