I sent an e-mail to Jerry to see if by any chance he still had his failed flywheel. I directed him to this thread or if he contacts me, I will pass on what I find out. The ring gear should be well outside the sealed area of the torus housing. I know the ring gear was too thick also that came on a manual transmission flywheel so it will have to be thinned.
