I have had some engines sleeved because the cylinders were egg shaped and causing piston slap. The slap caused a sound similar to bad wrist pins. Never had a problem after they were sleeved, they ran great. Many farm tractor engines have either wet or dry sleeves in their cylinders. Part of their rebuild is to replace the sleeves.
