I have resolved my problem as you can see in the following link. Went to the Turlock, CA swap meet and got a pair of new licence frames that fit 47 california plates for $40/pr. Much more rigid that having the plate only.

I had to call my wife to get her opinion if I should go that route vs a mere $40
