Good and tight and hit the end of the puller shaft with a hammer. May take several attempts to tighten and whack before any results are visible. If it will tighten a little bit each time it means it is moving in the right direction.
There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it can not be overcome by brute force and ignorance.
